1. Kiến thức trọng tâm
So sánh hơn (Comparative):
- Tính từ ngắn (1–2 âm tiết): adj-er + than. Ví dụ: taller than, faster than.
- Tính từ dài (2 âm tiết trở lên): more + adj + than. Ví dụ: more interesting than.
- Ví dụ: Lan is taller than Mai. This book is more interesting than that one.
So sánh nhất (Superlative):
- Tính từ ngắn: the + adj-est. Ví dụ: the tallest, the fastest.
- Tính từ dài: the most + adj. Ví dụ: the most interesting, the most beautiful.
- Ví dụ: Lan is the tallest student in our class.
Trường hợp đặc biệt:
- good → better → the best
- bad → worse → the worst
- much / many → more → the most
- little → less → the least
- far → farther / further → the farthest / the furthest
2. Ví dụ minh họa
Câu tự viết:
- A motorbike is faster than a bicycle, but a car is the fastest of the three.
- English is more difficult than Vietnamese for me, but maths is the most difficult subject.
- Today is better than yesterday, and I hope tomorrow will be the best day.
Giải thích: "Faster than" so sánh xe máy với xe đạp (hai đối tượng). "The fastest of the three" so sánh nhất trong nhóm ba đối tượng, dùng "the" + "fastest". "More difficult than" dùng với tính từ dài "difficult". "The most difficult subject" dùng "the most" vì "difficult" dài. Chú ý: tính từ tận cùng "y" đổi thành "i" rồi thêm -er / -est: happy → happier → the happiest.
3. Ghi nhớ
- So sánh hơn: -er / more + than; so sánh nhất: the + -est / the most.
- Bất quy tắc: good–better–best; bad–worse–worst; far–farther–farthest.
- Tính từ tận cùng phụ âm + y: y → i (easy → easier → the easiest).
- So sánh bằng: as + adj + as (as tall as, as interesting as).
- Tránh lỗi gấp đôi: không nói "more taller" hay "most fastest".
